The merSETA certifications

The merSETA is one of the 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) established to promote skills development in terms of the Skills Development Act of 1998 (as amended). The 21 SETAs broadly reflect different sectors of the South African economy. The merSETA encompasses Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services.

The various industry sectors are covered by five chambers within the merSETA:

  • Metal and engineering
  • Auto manufacturing
  • Motor retail and component manufacturing
  • Tyre manufacturing
  • Plastics industries

The merSETA like all other SETAs play a central role in making sure that the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) is fulfilled.

In 2012 Technica Learning Resources received endorsement from the merSETA for its latest printed and online learning materials and these materials are now being rapidly adopted in the South African training environment.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

APPROVAL OF LEARNING MATERIAL FOR COMPETENCY-BASED MODULAR TRAINING (CBMT)

merSETA evaluated the contents and the structure of the learning and support material as found in the Jones & Bartlett Learning, also known as CDX material, as distributed by RMI and MIDAS.

merSETA found the material to be sufficiently covering the required outcomes for the CBMT learning intervention for it to be approved.  This is applicable to all four levels for Automotive Light Vehicle (“Motor Mechanics”) as well as for Automotive Heavy Vehicles (“Diesel Mechanics”). For Heavy Vehicles, only the Level 1 was currently available and evaluated.
